Jeff Larish Wins IL Batter of the Week

June 6, 2011
On Monday, the International League namged IronPigs first baseman Jeff Larish as the IL Batter of the Week for the week of June 6th. Larish is the second IronPigs player of 2011 to win weekly honors, as Brian Gordon won IL Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 16th. Larish becomes the fourth player in franchise history to win the honor, behind Andy Tracy (3x: weeks of 6/23/08, 8/4/08 and 6/15/09), Michael Taylor (week of 8/10/09), and John Mayberry Jr. (week of 4/12/10).

From the International League: "Lehigh Valley's Jeff Larish put up a week's worth of offensive numbers in Monday's game alone. The first baseman assaulted Gwinnett pitching to the tune of three hits, seven RBI, and a franchise-record eleven total bases to lead the IronPigs to a season-high 12 runs and season-high 16 hits. He wasn't done though. Larish, who went deep twice on Monday, would collect eight more hits over the next five games, including three doubles and two more long balls. Saturday night in Charlotte he collected a season-best four hits. For the week, Larish led the International League with four home runs, 12 RBI, and a 1.217 slugging percentage. He was also near the top of the circuit with a .478 batting average (4th), a .520 on-base percentage (4th), and eleven hits (T-5th).

28-year-old Jeff Larish is in his first season in the Philadelphia organization after signing this past offseason as a free agent. The former Detroit draft pick was claimed off of waivers last August by Oakland. He entered the 2011 campaign with plenty of experience at the Triple-A level (256 games with Toledo and Sacramento) and the Major League level (101 games with Detroit and Oakland). Larish is a native of Iowa City, Iowa."
