September 13, 2016

CHARLESTON, SC - Charleston RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols has announced the hiring of Zana Bowens as the club's new Director of Community Relations. The Fresno State University alum will take over for Haley Kirchner, who previously held the position and transitions to her new role as Special Events Manager.

Bowens continues her career with the RiverDogs after previously serving as the community relations intern during 2016 season.

"Zana was a standout as an intern for us this past season and because of her experience in this role, we are confident that she will transition seamlessly into the full-time position," said Echols.

As the club's new community relations director, Bowens will coordinate the RiverDogs' community branding and extensive outreach programs which includes promoting healthy living through youth sports - especially youth baseball - as well literacy, among others. The ball club's volunteer projects along with planning appearances for Charlie T. RiverDog, the club's loveable mascot, will continue to be a focus.

Bowens previously spent time as a marketing intern at her alma mater, assisting in the coordination of special events for Bulldogs athletics events. Joining the likes of outfielder Aaron Judge, Bowens becomes the latest Fresno State standout athlete to join the RiverDogs after a successful four-year career with the volleyball team, including two as the team's co-captain. The outside hitter finished in the top-10 in the Mountain West Conference in kills (193) and points (216) across 65 sets during her senior season. Bowens was a three-time Academic All-Mountain West selection during her Fresno State career.

Kirchner has been with the RiverDogs since spending time as an intern in the spring of 2013, having previously served as a special events and promotions assistant. She was the club's Community Relations Director for the 2015-16 seasons.

"Haley has been an integral part of the RiverDogs staff since her first season in 2013 and we are excited to have her back for another year in a position she is quite familiar with as she rejoins our excellent special events team," said Echols.

RiverDogs season tickets, half-season ticket packages and mini plans are now available for the 2017 campaign. The RiverDogs begin the season on April 6 when they host the Lexington Legends at Joseph P Riley, Jr. Park.
