For DeVore, three homers and a loss

Grizzlies outfielder drives in five runs in 12-inning defeat

Doug DeVore hit three homers and drove in five runs in a losing cause on Sunday night as the Fresno Grizzlies were beaten in 12 innings by the Round Rock Express, 10-9.

DeVore, who went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and four runs scored, smacked a two-run homer in the second inning off Round Rock starter Brian Tollberg. He also hit a solo shot in the sixth off Brooks Kieschnick and slugged a two-run blast in the eighth off T.J. Mathews.

The 27-year-old outfielder has 14 homers and 49 RBIs in 81 games. He also had a three-homer game for Double-A El Paso on May 28, 2001.

Tommy Whiteman snapped a 12th-inning tie with his third homer of the season, reaching Brandon Villafuerte (6-3) with one out to give Round Rock its eighth win in 11 games.

Whiteman went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and Mike Coolbaugh homered and drove in three runs for the Express.

Travis Driskill (8-4) allowed two hits and walked two in three scoreless innings for the victory.

Fresno's Brian Dallimore collected four hits and scored three runs, while Tony Torcato hit a two-run homer.
