Late Rally Not Enough in Jupiter

Tying Run Bats in Ninth but M's fall 5-2 to Hammerheads

JUPITER, FL - The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, dropped the rubber match of a three game series, 5-2, to the Jupiter Hammerheads Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium.

The game was decided with three unearned runs in the fifth inning. After securing the first two outs, Brett Lorin allowed Jose Duarte to reach on a walk. Jeff Dominguez then reached on Jarek Cunningham's error, scoring Duarte. Major League rehabbing Hanley Ramirez followed up with an RBI single for a 2-0 lead. Kyle Jensen drove in Ramirez with a single of his own.

Jupiter added another unearned run in the sixth when Dallas Poulk reached against reliever Jason Erickson on anther Cunningham miscue. He scored three batters later on a two out single by Taylor Krick. The Hammerheads finished off Bradenton with a solo homerun in the eighth by JL Ortiz. It was Jupiter's first homerun in since May 16th, a span of 22 homerless games.

The Marauders did make it interesting in the top of the ninth. Bradenton plated two runners, Ramon Cabrera and Elevys Gonzalez, on wild pitches from Ramon Benjamin. The lefty then walked Evan Chambers and hit David Rubinstein to bring the tying run to the plate. Calvin Anderson and Kelson Brown were both retired to end the threat and the game.

The Marauders return to McKechnie Field for a one night homestand Saturday at 7pm against the Fort Myers Miracle. Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer is currently on rehab with Fort Myers, having hit his first Florida State League homerun of the year Friday night against Palm Beach.
