Express welcomes Budweiser clydesdales

April 6, 2007
ROUND ROCK - They represent one of the more unique periods in American history, and for the next five days, the Budweiser Clydesdales will greet Round Rock Express fans at The Dell Diamond.

The horses will be featured in the northwest corner of the stadium from Friday, April 6 through Tuesday, April 10.

The Clydesdales made their first appearance in 1933 when August A. Busch Jr. presented the horses to his father to mark the first bottle of post-Prohibition beer brewed in St. Louis. Pulling a red, white and gold beer wagon, the horses became an instant symbol for Budweiser beer, even delivering a case to President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Originally transported by train, the horses now travel across the country, and even the globe, in specialized tractor trailers. During the course of a year, the horses travel nearly 150,000 miles, greeting fans along the way.
