STARLIN RODRIGUEZ NAMED TO ALL-STAR TEAM
Starlin Rodriguez has been named to the 2011 Midwest League All-Star Game at Modern Woodmen Park. He will join Cody Stanley, Trevor Rosenthal, Anthony Ferrara and Justin Wright as the five members from the River Bandits to participate in the event.
Rodriguez was called up from extended spring training on May 4, and has been with Quad Cities ever since. Rodriguez leads Quad Cities in batting average with a .297 mark, a number that is good for second best among Midwest League second sackers. Rodriguez also leads the team in triples with three, and on-base percentage at .376 for qualifying hitters. Rodriguez has played solid defense since debuting with the Bandits in early May having made only three errors in his time at second base.
The second-baseman is replacing Greg Garcia, who was promoted to Palm Beach after rosters were announced.
Rodriguez was signed as a non-drafted free agent from Santo Cristobal of the Dominican Republic on October 29, 1009. Last season he split time between Johnson City and the Gulf Coast League where he hit .400 with 14 RBI in 49 games.
All-Star festivities begin on Monday with Fan Fest at the River's Edge from 2 - 6p.m. on both Monday, June 20 and Tuesday, June 21. The Midwest League Home Run Derby is Monday night at 7p.m. with the All-Star Game at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa on Tuesday at 7:05p.m. Limited tickets are still available. ABOUT THE BANDITS: After three years of continuous ballpark improvements, the River Bandits and the City of Davenport are set to unveil some of the most impressive enhancements to Modern Woodmen Park yet. A brand new, state of the art, high definition 20' x 35' video board went live on June 7 and work continues on a new enclosure for the Sky Deck on the suite level of Modern Woodmen Park. Those improvements, in addition to new flood protection, a new front plaza, and a new parking lot directly across the street from the ballpark, are quickly making Modern Woodmen Park one of the premier facilities in all of Minor League Baseball.
