Angels Send Seven to Arizona Fall League

October 12, 2016

San Bernardino - The Los Angeles Angels sent seven prospects, including six who played with the Inland Empire 66ers in 2016, were selected for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the prestigious Arizona Fall League. They comprise of pitchers Adam Hofacket, Grayson Long, Eduardo Paredes and 2015 66ers rotation member Victor Alcantara. The Angels position players are catcher Taylor Ward, infielder David Fletcher and outfield Michael Hermosillo. Joining the seven from the Angels organization is Michael Wuertz who just completed his first season as the pitching coach of the Sixers after holding the same position for the Burlington Bees. The 32 game AFL schedule began yesterday and will conclude on November 17th.

Hermosillo will look to continue his strong play as the Mesa, AZ native had a combined .317 batting average between Burlington and Inland Empire. The outfielder also possessed an impressive .402 on-base percentage over the 77 games he played. The performance represented a great bounce back from a year ago as he not only raised his batting average by 86 points but also increased his hit, double, triple and RBI totals despite playing in 16 fewer games in 2016.

Another player to watch will be 2015 first round pick Taylor Ward who just completed his first full season of professional ball. The 2016 Sixers starting catcher belted 10 home runs while driving in 56 runs. The former Fresno State Bulldog also showed off his arm during the past season throwing out 48 attempted base stealers.

The pair combined to go 4-5 with three R.B.I's, three doubles and three runs in yesterday's 9-6 win over Glendale in the Arizona Fall League season opener. Joining the seven Angel farmhands on the Scottsdale squad are prospects from, New York Mets (Including Tim Tebow), New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants.
