Lorenzo Bundy Named PCL All-Star Skipper

June 16, 2011
Albuquerque Isotopes manager Lorenzo Bundy has been named skipper of the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team by the League office. Bundy will lead the PCL squad against the International League in the Triple-A All-Star Game, taking place on July 13th at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake.

Under Bundy's guidance, the 'Topes have had a winning record and been either first or second in the division virtually all season. Bundy has also been a stabilizing force, keeping the Isotopes competitive despite losing 11 different players to the Dodgers through the season's first three months.

In fact, this year's All-Star squad has a decidedly Isotopes feel despite the fact the game is being played in Salt Lake City. Joining Bundy on the PCL staff is Nashville pitching coach Rich Gale, who served in the same capacity in Albuquerque from 2007-08, while popular former 'Topes manager Dean Treanor, who now is the manager of the Indianapolis Indians, joins IL skipper's Mike Sarbaugh's staff as an All-Star coach.

This will be the first time Bundy has been selected to the All-Star staff and the fifth time an Albuquerque manager has been selected to helm the PCL All-Star squad. 'Topes skipper Treanor managed the PCL side when the game was played at Isotopes Park in 2007, while Dukes manager Terry Collins managed in the first-ever Triple-A All-Star Game in 1988. Dukes skippers Kevin Kennedy also managed in the Triple-A All-Star Game in 1990 and Bill Russell was at the helm the first time the Triple-A Mid-Season classic was played in Albuquerque in 1993.

The Triple-A All-Star Game, presented by Zions Banks and Workers Compensation Fund, will air live on MLB Network on Wednesday, July 13th from Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah, home of the PCL's Salt Lake Bees.

The Isotopes are back home tomorrow for an action-packed Father's Day weekend that includes a hat giveaway, post-game fireworks, and a very special father/child catch on the field at Isotopes Park before Sunday's game in celebration of Father's Day.

Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
