Tonight's Postgame Fireworks Cancelled

Red-flag fire conditions force cancellation
June 17, 2011

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Due to the development of red-flag fire warning conditions throughout today in Central Texas and in conjunction with recent disaster declarations from Williamson County officials, Round Rock Fire Department officials have cancelled postgame fireworks for tonight's game at The Dell Diamond. First pitch between the Express and Omaha Storm Chasers is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT.

According to Williamson County Fire Department officials, weather conditions reached red-flag fire danger status Friday afternoon. These conditions include sustained winds in excess of 15 miles per hour and relative humidity lower than 25 percent.

"Safety is among our top priorities here at The Dell Diamond," Express General Manager George King said. "Obviously we regret having to cancel a big part of the game experience that our fans love. However, to show appreciation of our fans' patience and thanks in large part to our sponsor Bud Light, who also shares our concerns for safety, we will allow all fans the unique opportunity of running the bases after the game."

The decision affects tonight's game only. Approbation of future postgame fireworks displays will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

"It became clear to us this afternoon that weather conditions had worsened," Express President Dave Fendrick said. "We are concerned about safety issues not only at The Dell Diamond but also in the surrounding areas such Old Settlers Park and nearby residential neighborhoods."

Tonight's game is broadcast on YNN Sports in the Austin area on Time Warner Cable channel 408 (HD 1509). All Express games are broadcast on 104.9 FM The Horn ESPN Radio Austin.
