David Lough Elects Free Agency
Former Storm Chasers outfielder David Lough has elected free agency after finishing the 2016 season with the Miami Marlins. He is free to sign with any organization for the upcoming 2017 campaign.
Lough has participated in 401 career games with the Omaha franchise, including the 2011 and 2013 Pacific Coast League Championship squads. He combined for a .295 average (461-1561) along with 250 runs, 66 doubles, 37 triples, 33 homers and 209 RBI. His 37 triples are the most of any player in Omaha franchise history.
He is also known for recording the first hit in Werner Park history on Opening Night, April 16, 2011 in the opening frame against the Nashville Sounds. Two innings later he also collected the park's first double.
Lough started the 2016 campaign in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, splitting time between Philadelphia and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. In his 30 Big League contests this year he compiled a .239 average (16-67) with six runs, three doubles, one triple and four RBI.
He was released by the Phillies in August 2016 before signing a minor league deal with the Marlins soon after. Lough tallied a .200 average (6-30) in nine games with Triple-A New Orleans, adding two runs, two doubles and one RBI.
Between the Royals, Phillies and Baltimore Orioles, Lough has totaled a .254 batting average (190-749) in 342 Major League contests, adding 95 runs, 29 doubles, 10 triples, 13 homers and 67 RBI, as well as 17 steals. In two years with Kansas City he accrued a .278 mark (104-374) in 116 tilts with five longballs and 35 RBI.
Over parts of nine minor league campaigns he has combined for a .294 clip (825-2809) with 436 runs, 131 doubles, 54 triples, 66 homers and 361 RBI, adding 99 stolen bases.
