Zephyrs Blank RedHawks, 7-0

Oklahoma City, Okla. - Victor Garate and Todd Doolittle combined on a four-hit shutout leading the New Orleans Zephyrs (36-35) to a 7-0 win over the Oklahoma City RedHawks (29-42) before 4,178 Sunday afternoon at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.

New Orleans starter Victor Garate allowed one hit over four innings, but did not factor in the decision. Todd Doolittle (3-1) pitched five shutout innings with three hits, one walk and four strikeouts in the win. Nelson Figueroa (4-3) dealt a quality start, three earned runs and seven hits over seven innings, but took the losing decision.

The Zephyrs scored two runs in the second inning against Figueroa. Matt Dominguez singled and scored on a Joe Thurston triple for a 1-0 lead. Chris Aguila next knocked in Thurston with a single for a 2-0 score.

New Orleans added a third inning run when Dominguez grounded out to score Ozzie Martinez from third base for a 3-0 lead.

The Zephyrs added four runs, one earned, in the ninth inning against RedHawks reliever Jose Valdez. Joe Thurston led off with a home run to right field for a 4-0 score. Aguila next singled and scored on a wild throw by Valdez for a 5-0 Zephyrs advantage. Later in the inning Josh Kroeger knocked in two runs with a single through the right side of the infield for a 7-0 score.
