The Bees scored three in the first inning and five pitchers combined to make those runs hold up, as Salt Lake edged the Tacoma Rainiers 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. Reggie Willits walked to lead off the game and one out later, came home to score on a single to left by Kevin Melillo. After Jeff Baisley reached on a fielder's choice, he scored from first on a triple by Jeremy Moore. Moore came across with the third run of the inning on a single to right by Gil Velazquez.
Ryan Chaffee (1-0) picked up the win in his triple-A debut, as he went five innings and allowed just one run on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Chaffee escaped a pair of two runners on base and one out with a pair of inning ending double plays in the fourth and fifth.
