A message from Ken Babby, owner

November 3, 2016

Dear Fans,

I am extremely excited to introduce to you the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp!

Our goal was to create a new identity that reflected Jacksonville's heritage and the type of organization we are building, steeped in family fun and entertainment at an affordable price.

The new name and logo embraces the heart of Jacksonville's identity and heritage, which we sought to identify through countless conversations with our fan base and people throughout the region. As the largest city in Florida, yet in many ways a richly connected and close-knit community, Jacksonville is truly a Big Small Town. The Jumbo Shrimp name also represents the water geography of the First Coast, with a logo expressing the resilient character of Northeast Florida - a tenacious Shrimp as the letter "J" on the team caps. The players will wear "Jacksonville" and "Bold City" across their uniforms, with American Red, White, St. Johns Navy and Patriotic Blue colors as tribute to Jacksonville's military tradition.

I know many fans have a special connection to the Suns name, and I understand the importance of tradition. The Suns' history is, and always will be, part of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp history - all of the players, championships, and records. We are not closing the book on the Suns; we are opening a new chapter of Jacksonville baseball. The team remains the Miami Marlins' Double-A affiliate, and we hope to have several of the noteworthy young prospects who played here last season again in 2017.

I also know fans LOVE Southpaw. He will remain part of the Jumbo Shrimp and active in the Jacksonville community.

This season we told you Jacksonville would be "FUNdamentally Different" (with an emphasis on FUN!). The focus was making the fan experience the best in all of Minor League Baseball, with the addition of the new Budweiser Tiki Terrace, renovations to group hospitality areas, a variety of affordable concessions and a cleaner, friendlier Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Fans learned the great value of a night at the ballpark, with tickets starting at $5, hot dogs just $2, unique entertainment and memorable moments - like Sunday catch on the field and incredible firework shows that fans have come to know as the best in town. These will continue in 2017, along with our commitment to deliver the best possible service for our guests.

I think once you get a look at the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on the field and in the community, and the improvements coming to the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville, you'll agree this new era matches our slogan, "Affordable. Family. Fun."

We hope you are as excited as we are for the 2017 season! You can find everything to prepare for spring - and Jumbo Shrimp gear - at jaxshrimp.com. Please mark your schedule for the inaugural Jumbo Shrimp home opener on Wednesday, April 12, at 7:05 p.m.

See you at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville soon!
