Zito tosses complete-game two-hitter
The Giants starter limited Triple-A Salt Lake to just two hits, going the distance in the Fresno Grizzlies' 2-0 shutout of the Bees on Tuesday.
Zito struck out seven and walked two, retiring 15 straight batters at one point. Tyson Auer lined a two-out single to center field in the third for the Bees' first hit of the game, while Efren Navarro contributed a two-out single in the eighth.
The only other two Salt Lake batters to reach base were Andrew Romine and Reggie Willits, who walked in the first and ninth respectively.
Placed on the disabled list on April 17 with a right mid-foot sprain, Zito has reeled off four straight wins in his four rehab starts. He allowed three runs over 13 2/3 innings in two outings for Class A Advanced San Jose, then moved on to Fresno, where he has yielded four runs across 15 frames.
Overall, the 33-year-old left-hander has posted a combined 2.20 ERA with 23 strikeouts and seven walks over 28 2/3 innings in the Minors. He is 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in three starts with the big league club this season.
Center fielder Darren Ford and former Major Leaguer Brad Eldred provided all the offense the Grizzlies would need with solo home runs.
Zito's opponent, Ryan Ketchner (3-4), also pitched a complete game but took the loss.
