O'Neill plates two in Javelinas' setback
Tyler O'Neill is using the Arizona Fall League to prepare for Triple-A. He provided more evidence of his readiness on Saturday night.
The Mariners' second-ranked prospect singled, walked twice, drove in two runs and made two diving catches before Peoria dropped a 4-3 11-inning decision to Salt River in Arizona Fall League action.
O'Neill is 13-for-39 (.333) with five walks and only seven strikeouts in 42 plate appearances over his last 10 games with the Javelinas. MLB.com's No. 59 overall prospect raised his AFL average to .323, which ranks second on the team behind Reds infielder Zach Vincej.
The 21-year-old outfielder's calling card is his power, which manifested itself in the form of 56 home runs over the last two seasons with Class A Advanced Bakersfield and Double-A Jackson. He was named Southern League MVP and helped the Generals win its first championship in 16 years.
While he's second on the Javelinas with three homers and 12 RBIs, O'Neill also has played errorless ball in 16 games.

Brewers No. 14 prospect Jacob Nottingham collected two hits for Salt River, delivering a walk-off single in the 11th off Mariners right-hander Emilio Pagan (0-1).
Braves No. 27 prospect Akeel Morris (2-1) struck out four over two perfect innings to get the win.
