Family Catch Day
On Sunday, June 26th, Enjoy a Free Game of Catch at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark and Staten Island's Little League Fields
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Borough President James P. Molinaro, Councilman James Oddo, and the Staten Island Yankees today announced Sunday's schedule of "Family Catch Day" activities across the Borough where children and adults will be invited to enjoy a free game of catch.
Following the 4:00 p.m. game at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Staten Island Yankees will invite everyone in the stands, as well as Staten Island families all across the Borough, to come down to the field for a free catch. Among the VIPs who will be tossing the ball around will be Borough President Molinaro, Councilman Oddo, Staten Island Yankees President Joe Ricciutti, Executive V.P. and General Manager Jane M. Rogers, and Harold Theurer, Jr., author of "Hey, Dad! Let's Have a Catch," the inspiration for "Family Catch Day."
Earlier that day, the following Little Leagues will ask their fans to toss the ball around in the spirit of "Family Catch Day":
- 12 Noon: Verrazano Babe Ruth League, 475 Brielle Avenue, across from Seaview Hospital and Rehab Center
- 1:00 p.m.: Snug Harbor Little League, 1000 Richmond Terrace, on Snug Harbor Road in Livingston
- 2:00 p.m.: South Shore Little League, 243 Bedell Avenue in Tottenville
Informally, "Family Catch Day" will also be catching on at any park or neighborhood where residents would like to spend quality time with their children. The idea behind the activity is to encourage families to put down their electronic gadgets, pick up a ball and glove, and go out and enjoy the timeless tradition of having a simple game of catch.
