Marinez Selected to 2011 XM All-Star Futures Game

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Jacksonville Suns right-handed relief pitcher Jhan Marinez has been named to the World roster for the 2011 XM All-Star Futures Game at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz., on Taco Bell All-Star Sunday on Sunday, July 10.

Marinez this season is 2-5 with a 3.77 ERA in 27 relief appearances for the Suns. Marinez also has struck out 37 batters compared to 21 walks, and he has only allowed two home runs this season. Marinez, who also has one save this season, is 22 years old from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

Marinez pitched in the major leagues for the Florida Marlins in 2010, going 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA in four relief appearances. He also entered this season ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Marlins organization according to Baseball America.

In addition to Marinez, three other Southern Leaguers will be in the event: Paul Goldschmidt (Mobile), Arodys Vizcaino (Mississippi), and Alfredo Silverio (Chattanooga).

This is the thirteenth year for the Futures Game, featuring the top prospects from baseball. The players are separated into World and U.S. rosters of 25 players on each side. Fans can watch the game on July 10 at 6:05 p.m. on ESPN2, MLB.TV, and also on XM Radio on MLB Network Radio 89.

The Suns and Lookouts will play the second game of their series on Friday night at AT&T Field. The Suns will start right-hander Dallas Trahern (1-1, 4.29 ERA) against Chattanooga right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (5-4, 2.84 ERA). Friday’s first pitch is set for 7:15 p.m., and fans can listen to the game beginning at 7 p.m. with the U.F. & Shands Pregame Show on WFXJ AM 930 the Fox and www.jaxsuns.com.
