Lynx outlast Knights

April 18, 2007
J.A. Happ extended his scoreless innings streak to 10 2/3 as Ottawa edged Charlotte, 3-2, on Tuesday at Lynx Stadium.

Happ maintained a spotless ERA with 5 2/3 shutout innings, though he did not factor in the decision. The 24-year-old left-hander struck out five, allowing five hits and four walks.

Along with turning double plays in the third and fourth, the Lynx defense helped out Happ when catcher Jason Jaramillo nailed Josh Fields on a steal attempt in the second and left fielder Lou Collier gunned down Andy Gonzalez at third in the fifth.

Reliever Eude Brito (1-1) got the win with a scoreless eighth. Brian Sanches notched his second save, despite giving up a run in the ninth.

Ottawa (3-5) snapped a 1-1 tie in the eighth when Brennan King was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. One out later, Jaramillo singled to left to plate a needed insurance run.

The Knights (5-6) mounted a rally in the ninth as Pedro Lopez slapped a two-out single to right that scored Luis Terrero, but Casey Rogowski struck out to end the game. Terrero went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Reliever Ehren Wassermann (1-1) took the loss after giving up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk in 1 1/3 innings. --Michael Echan/MLB.com
