Lookouts Take Series with 7-2 Win
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lookouts (3-1, 38-36) claimed a series victory over the Jacksonville Suns (1-3, 38-36) with a 7-2 win at AT&T Field on Sunday afternoon.
The loss is Jacksonville's third straight to Chattanooga, as the Suns have lost their first series of the second half of the 2011 season.
After the Suns took a 1-0 lead in the third on a Jim Negrych RBI single, the Lookouts quickly answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Alfredo Silverio delivered Chattanooga its first lead with a two-RBI triple that put the score at 2-1. Elian Herrara followed with an RBI single, and Scott Van Slyke capped the scoring with an RBI double to give the Lookouts a 4-1 lead.
The Suns got a run closer in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Ben Lasater, but the Lookouts got the run back in the bottom of the inning with a Travis Denker home run to put Chattanooga back ahead by three at 5-2. Suns starter Joey O'Gara (4-5) took his third loss in his last four starts by allowing five runs on six hits in six innings on the mound.
Reliever Jeff Allison gave up two more Chattanooga runs in the bottom of the seventh before the game was delayed by rain with the score 7-2. The game was delayed in the bottom of the seventh inning by rain for just over an hour before play was resumed.
After the rain delay, Corey Madden ended the seventh inning by striking out Brad Coon, and he would work a perfect eighth inning as well. Madden faced four batters in his 22nd relief appearance of the year, striking out three.
Lookouts starter Will Savage (8-2) earned the victory after throwing six innings allowing the two Suns runs on four hits.
