Britton, Michigan native Duane Below leads Hens to victory!
7,627 fans turned out on a beautiful 81 degree night at Fifth Third Field on Sunday to watch the Mud Hens defeat the Louisville Bats 4-2. Toledo starter LHP Duane Below gave up two runs over six innings and Will Rhymes, Clete Thomas and Danny Worth had RBI hits.
Below settled down after a 28-pitch first inning to pitch 4.1 no-hit innings for the Mud Hens.
In the bottom of the third, Rhymes drove in Jeff Salazar with a RBI single to right to give the Hens a 1-0 lead. Worth then drove in Argenis Diaz to extend the lead to 2-0.
Rhymes drove in Argenis Diaz in the bottom of the fifth with a RBI double which gave the Hens a 3-0 advantage and gave Rhymes his second RBI of the game.
Devin Mesoraco brought the Bats within a run of the Hens at 3-2 with a two-run single in the top of the sixth.
Thomas extended the Hens lead to 4-2 with a RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
After Below's masterful six innings, RHP Brendan Wise came in for relief. Wise hurled a hitless seventh. Wise then handed over the game to closer RHP Lester Oliveros who earned his fifth save of the year.
The Mud Hens wrap up their homestand with a special noon start. The Hens then travel down to face their buckeye rivals the Columbus Clippers for two games in the capital city then return home for a four game homstand.
