Storm Complete Sweep of Inland Empire on the Road

June 27, 2011
The Lake Elsinore Storm successfully completed a four-game sweep of the Inland Empire 66ers, to begin the second half of the season 4-0, tied for first with the Quakes.

Over the road trip to San Bernardino, the Storm scored a total of 32 runs off 54 hits including five home runs by four different players. The Storm are now 11-5 when playing the 66ers this season.

For the most part, the entire Storm offense contributed to the sweep. However, 2B Jonathan Galvez, OF Danny Payne and SS Jeudy Valdez all stood out. Over the series, Galvez batted .556 with four doubles, one triple, six RBI, two walks and three stolen bases while scoring five runs. Valdez would go 6-for-21, but all six of his hits were for extra bases, including four doubles and two home runs. Valdez also swiped two bags and scored three runs. Payne batted .500(7-for-14) scoring five runs while collecting two doubles, one home run, four RBI, four walks and two stolen bases.

Newcomer Andrew Werner made his Storm debut in fine fashion as he picked up the game three win for Lake Elsinore. Over six innings, Werner allowed no runs off four hits, striking out 10 and walking none.

Closer Miles Mikolas collected his ninth, 10th and 11th saves of the season as well.

The Storm take on the Quakes in a three-game series at The Diamond between Monday, June 27 and Wednesday, June 29. With both teams at 4-0 in the second half, it's going to be an exciting series in Lake Elsinore, to see who will stay on top of the division.
