Ayala, Saenz, Loftin Repeat

CORPUS CHRISTI - Miller pitcher A.G. Ayala, pitcher Dustin Saenz of King, and Ray shortstop Nick Loftin repeated on the South Texas Pre-Season Large-School Baseball Team announced Friday.

All 14 members will be recognized with their small-school counterparts at the 13^th South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet on Thursday, January 26, at the Omni Hotel. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The event is presented by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and iHeartMEDIA. Tickets are on sale at the Whataburger Field Box Office. To order by phone, call 361-561-HOOK (4665).

Ayala and Saenz are on the pitching staff with Moody's Marcus Cantu and John Gaddis of Calallen. The Trojans and Wildcats, who've combined for five state championships and 24 state tournament trips (12 each), topped the honor squad with three picks. Outfielder Roy Sandoval and designated hitter Ramsey Flores are teammates of Cantu, while second baseman Clay Faught and third baseman Brandon Broughton play with Gaddis.

Two players represent Carroll and King. The Tigers placed first baseman Ryan Flores and outfielder Michael Garza on the team, while Mustangs outfielder Abel Pena joins Saenz.

Gregory-Portland catcher Michael Solis and Tuloso-Midway second baseman Ryan Chapa, two of 12 seniors nominated and selected by area Class 5A coaches, complete the list. Broughton and Garza are the only juniors.
