Three R-Phils Named to 2011 E.L. All-Star Game

(Reading, PA) – Michael Spidale, Matt Rizzotti, and Austin Hyatt were chosen to represent the Reading Phillies at the 2011 Eastern League All-Star Game, which will be held at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in New Hampshire, as announced by the Eastern League earlier today. The Eastern League All-Star game will be held on Tuesday, July 12, and will feature the E.L. Eastern Division All-Stars against the E.L. Western Division All-Stars.

Spidale, who, is in his fifth season with the Reading Phillies, is currently sixth in the Eastern League with a .320 batting average. A native of Illinois, Spidale, 29, shattered the Reading Phillies franchise hit-record with a home run on May 29 in Erie, PA. Currently, Spidale is the R-Phils team leader in stolen bases with 11 and is tied with teammate Freddy Galvis for first on the club with 80 hits.

During the month of May, Spidale hit an astonishing .381 (32-84). Last season, he finished fourth in the Eastern League with a .303 batting average and fifth in the league with 31 stolen bases. His strong efforts led to him being named as the Reading Phillies Team MVP in 2010.

Rizzotti, 25, is currently hitting .289 with 14 home runs and 47 RBIs through 75 games with Reading this season. The New York native ranks second in the Eastern League in home runs (tied with four others), fourth in RBIs, tied for third in total bases (139), and fifth in the E.L. with a .515 slugging percentage. The 6’5 slugger hit .316 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs in May and is now a two-time E.L. All-Star, after representing Reading in 2010 as well.

Hyatt, a native of Atlanta, GA, is the lone Reading pitching representative on the Eastern Division squad. Hyatt, 25, is ranked as the 24th best prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies organization by Baseball America, and has compiled a 6-5 record with a 4.38 ERA in 15 starts this season for Reading. He began the 2011 season winning his first two starts, and later posted three-straight wins in May (5/1 – 5/11).
