Yankee Pitching Dominates Pawtucket in DH Sweep

July 3, 2011
The Yankees wrapped up a four game series in Norfolk on Friday night and then traveled to Pawtucket to begin a three-game two-day series at McCoy Stadium. The travel did not hinder the Yankees in anyway as they swept the double-header, winning game one 7-0 and game two 3-0.

Brandon Laird and Jesus Montero led the Yankees in the first game of the twin bill. Both Montero and Laird contributed with two-run homers in the 7-0 win. Jordan Parraz and Austin Krum also contributed with RBI hits.

D.J. Mitchell was terrific in a winning effort for the Yankees. He allowed just one hit in a complete game shutout. He improved to 5-7 on the season and lowered his ERA to 3.45.

The Yankees earned a 3-0 victory in the second half of their doubleheader with the Red Sox. They were again backed by tremendous pitching performances from George Kontos, Logan Kensing, and Randy Flores.

Mike Lamb had an RBI single and Laird roped another two-run homer to give the Yankees all they would need offensively on Saturday night.

The Yankees improved to 44-37 on the season and are now 3.5 games behind the International League North Division leading Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

The Yankees and Red Sox will wrap up their series at McCoy Stadium tomorrow evening; first pitch is scheduled for 6:05.
