Yankees Victory Celebrated with Fireworks

Tampa, Fla. - The Tampa Yankees won another close one tonight over the Brevard County Manatees in front of over 4,000 fans, 5-4. Starting on the mound was Nik Turley (5.40 ERA) for Tampa and Kyle Heckathorn (5-6, 3.95 ERA) for the Manatees.

Tampa scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first when Walter Ibarra singled, and stole second. Luke Muron singled to score Ibarra and took second on the throw. Kyle Roller followed with another single sending Murton home.

In the top of the fourth, the Manatees got on the board. Kentrail Davis singled and stole second. Khristopher Davis walked, and D'Vontrey Richardson doubled scoring one runner. Shea Vucinch and Scott Krieger also doubled to score two more runs and give Brevard County a 3-2 lead.

The T-Yanks called to the bullpen in the top of the sixth to bring out Kramer Sneed replacing Turley who pitched five innings, giving up six hits, three earned runs, and striking out four. Richardson singled and advanced to second on the throwing error. He stole third and scored on a single from Vucinich to extend their lead 4-2.

Heckathorn was replaced on the mound in the bottom of the seventh after throwing six innings, striking out seven and giving up seven hits and two earned runs by Roque Mercedes. Abe Almonte led off the inning with a triple and scored off a sacrifice fly from Ibarra to inch the Yankees closer 4-3.

In the bottom of the eighth, Roller singled, and J.R. Murphy doubled to send Roller home to tie the game at 4. Kelvin Castro grounded out to move Murphy to third and he scored on a passed ball for the "W" 5-4.

The Tampa Yankees will hit the road to Daytona for four games, then on to St. Lucie for four games and will return home Wednesday, July 13th at 7:00pm to take on the Palm Beach Cardinals. Kid's 14 and under receive a free hot dog, soda, and ice cream with the purchase of a reserved ticket ($5) at the George M. Steinbrenner Field box office.
