Power, Wood join Albuquerque Hall
Brian Traxler, Ted Power, and Jason Wood will be enshrined in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday, July 23 as part of Dukes Retro Night at Isotopes Park.
The three players were nominated and elected by vote of the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame committee, consisting of baseball history experts throughout the city of Albuquerque.
Power pitched for the Dukes from 1979-82, going 41-19 with a 4.29 ERA in 85 games, 83 starts. The right-hander was the anchor of the Dukes' 1981 PCL Championship pitching staff, going 18-3, a Dukes record for wins in a season, with a 3.56 ERA. Power won his last nine decisions that year to propel the Dukes into the PCL post-season. Power, who is currently the Triple-A pitching coach for the Cincinnati Reds affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky will be attendance at the ceremony.
Perennial fan-favorite Traxler played for the Dukes from 1989-93, and in 1995, racking up a career average of .302 in a Dukes record 544 games while hitting 49 homers and driving in 282 runs. He was named most-popular player by the fans in 1992, 1993, and 1995 and is also the Dukes franchise leader in doubles with 122 and total bases with 829. Traxler, who passed away in 2004, will be represented by his widow, Gabby.
Wood becomes the first Isotopes player to receive the Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame honor after essentially being the face of the franchise from 2003-2006, and 2008. Over five seasons, Wood set modern Albuquerque baseball records in games (587), at-bats (2,087), RBIs (328) and total bases (588). Wood was selected as team Most Valuable Player by vote of his teammates in 2003, 2005, and 2006. Wood, currently managing the Texas Rangers' Class A Advanced affiliate in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina will also be in attendance.
The Albuquerque Professional Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be part of the festivities surrounding Dukes Retro Night on Saturday, July 23 when the Isotopes take on the New Orleans Zephyrs at 7:05 PM.
In addition to the Hall of Fame enshrinement, the Isotopes will be wearing special mustard-yellow throw-back Dukes jerseys against the Z's and the game will be followed by a spectacular fireworks show.
