Jordan Walden and Howie Kendrick named to MLB All-Star Team
Former Orem Owlz pitcher, Jordan Walden, was named to the American League All-Star team earlier this week. Walden replaces Mariano Rivera, who will sit out the Midsummer Classic was an injury. Walden is the first Angel rookie named to the All-Star team since Jason Dickson in 1997.
The native of Fort Worth, TX enters plays tonight with 19 saves, three shy of matching the club's rookie record of 22 saves by Ken Tatum in 1969. He will join teammates Jered Weaver and Howie Kendrick on the 2011 A.L squad.
Walden pitched for Orem in 2007, compiling a 1-1 record with 3.08 ERA. He started 15 games, giving up only 22 earned runs and striking out 63.
Kendrick was a member of the 2003 Provo Angels team that set the Pioneer League record with 54 wins. As a 19-year old, Kendrick hit .368 with 20 doubles in 2003.
