Mike Flacco Promoted to Frederick

First baseman moving up to the Carolina League

The Delmarva Shorebirds and Baltimore Orioles have announced that first baseman Mike Flacco, the younger brother of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, has been promoted to the Frederick Keys effective Thursday. The 24-year old led the Shorebirds with 20 doubles and 41 runs-batted-in.

In 72 games this season, Flacco hit .273 with five home runs and 41 RBIs. He ranked second on the club in walks with 34 and second in slugging percentage (.420).

Flacco had 18 multi-hit games for the Shorebirds including two four-hit games.

Flacco was named the South Atlantic League Player of the Week for the week of May 16 through May 22. He batted .538 during the week with seven doubles.

The Audobon, New Jersey native is in his third season in the Orioles system. He was selected in the 31st round of the 2009 First Year Player Draft. Flacco has never advanced beyond the South Atlantic League until now.
