d'Arnaud Has Two Hits In Game 1 Win

(Binghamton, NY)---Travis d'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with an RBI and he scored the tie-breaking run in the top of the eighth inning as the Fisher Cats beat the Mets 5-3 in the opener of a twi-night doubleheader on Thursday night. Binghamton came back to take the nightcap 1-0.

The Mets (36-55) scored the only run of the second game in the bottom of the second inning. Dusty Ryan tripled and scored on a groundout by Salomon Manriquez.

Yohan Pino (2-4) took the loss, allowing one run in four innings. He allowed three hits and struck out six.

Toronto Blue Jays RHP Casey Janssen worked a perfect inning in relief as he continued his MLB Rehab Assignment. Janssen came on in relief of Pino, retiring the Mets in order with a strikeout in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Edgar Ramirez (1-2) worked two scoreless innings in relief for the Mets to earn the win and Erik Turgeon retired the side in order in the seventh for his fifth save.

In the opener, the Fisher Cats scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning for a 5-3 win. Travis d'Arnaud (2-for-4, RBI) singled and moved to third on a single by Mark Sobolewski, scoring on an error by Binghamton for a 4-3 lead. Craig Stansberry ran at third base for Sobolewski, scoring on a Jonathan Diaz walk when the Mets made an error throwing to second base on the play.

New Hampshire opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Anthony Gose walked and stole second and scored on a single to left by d'Arnaud to make it 1-0.

Binghamton tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by first baseman Allen Dykstra.

The Fisher Cats took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Sobolewski was hit by a pitch, John Tolisano singled him to third and he scored on a single by Jonathan Diaz to make it 2-1. Tolisano scored on a bloop double to right field by Justin Jackson for a 3-1 lead.

The Mets tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jordany Valdespin singled and Josh Satin doubled to make it 3-2. Allen Dykstra singled Satin to third and he scored on an error on the cutoff throw.

Chad Jenkins allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings in his start. B. J. LaMura (4-4) worked a scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win and Bobby Korecky worked a perfect bottom of the eighth with two strikeouts for his sixth save.

John Lujan (0-2) took the loss for Binghamton.

The Fisher Cats continue the series in Binghamton on Friday at 7:05pm. RHP Henderson Alvarez (4-4, 3.25) will start for New Hampshire against Mets LHP Robert Carson (2-7, 4.40). Live coverage can be heard on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network beginning at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman.
