Burlington Beats D-Braves in Extras
Danville, VA - The last time Danville visited Burlington they exploded with 27 runs; Last night, the Royals held them to just one. The two teams played a two hour and 50 minute extra innings affair and the Royals came out on top, 2-1. The D-Braves scored right away in Friday night's game. Brandon Drury walked with two outs in the top of the first and Billy Beckwith and Sam Munson followed up with back to back singles, the latter one scoring Drury. The RBI was Munson's 13th of the season.
The Royals tied up the game in the fourth inning on a Murray Watts homerun to right field. It was Watts's league leading tenth homerun of the season. The homerun extended his homerun lead to two over Bluefield's Art Charles.
That was all the scoring there was until the game-winner for Burlington in the 11th inning. In the 11th, Michael Antonio singled to right and then wreaked havoc on the base paths. Antonio immediately stole second base. Then Danville pitcher, Dan Jurik, intentionally walked Watts to put runners on first and second with one down. Antonio then stole third base to put runners on the corners. Adrian Bringas then hit a sacrifice fly to Chase Larsson that scored Bringas to give the Royals the victory.
Jurik took the loss after pitching two and two-thirds giving up just the one run. AJ Holland made his Danville debut; he pitched two innings of one hit ball and struck out two. Starter, Lucas LaPoint pitched six innings and gave up seven hits and one run, he struck out four. The Royals left just seven men on base and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
Nick Graffeo pitched the final three innings for Burlington, he got his second win of the season. Danville had nine hits in the contest, but left 12 runners on. They were just 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Billy Beckwith went 3-for-4 with a double. His average now stands at .333.
The Braves will face off against Burlington two more times before heading to Pulaski for another three. They D-Braves will return home a week from tonight, July 21.
