Speigner squelches SeaWolves
Speigner (5-8) went the distance for the second time inside of a month, as he pitched all nine on July 29 against Norwich. The 24 year-old right-hander allowed just two singles and two walks while fanning seven. Speigner finished strong, retiring 10 of the last 11.
Corey Hamman (3-3) made it a pitchers' duel for seven innings, yielding eight hits and a walk while striking out four.
New Britain took advantage of the one opening they had against Hamman in the fifth, using back-to-back doubles by James Tomlin and Matt Moses to plate the only run of the game. Tomlin was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and Moses was 2-for-4.
Juan Francia and Max St. Pierre collected the SeaWolves' only hits. Thursday's game was the second time this week that Erie's offense was completely squelched. The SeaWolves were no-hit by Bowie's Matt Bailie on Sunday.
Erie travels to Norwich for a 7:05 p.m. ET start on Friday. New Britain travels to Bowie for a 7:05 p.m. game.
