JetHawks honor #2 with $2 tickets

July 19, 2011
Former JetHawks second baseman Jose Altuve has been promoted to the Major Leagues and will likely make his Major League debut for the Houston Astros, Lancaster's parent club. Altuve began the 2011 season in Lancaster and batted .408 with five home runs and 34 RBIs with the JetHawks.

In honor of his promotion to the Major Leagues, the JetHawks are offering fans $2 reserved section tickets to Lancaster's July 20 game against the High Desert Mavericks. To purchase tickets for $2, fans can order their tickets online www.JetHawks.com and use promo code ALTUVE. Fans can also purchase $2 reserved section tickets at the box office by mentioning Jose Altuve.

Altuve was promoted to Lancaster at the end of July in 2010. In 31 games with the JetHawks last season, Altuve batted .276 with four home runs and 22 RBIs. Over parts of two seasons, Altuve played in 83 games with Lancaster and compiled a .353 batting average with nine home runs and 56 RBIs. He was promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi June 1. At the time of his Major League call-up, Altuve had the highest batting average (.389) of any player in the minor leagues and was tied for the most hits (139) in the minors. He reached the Major Leagues just 50 days after his final game with Lancaster, quicker than any former JetHawk.

Altuve represented the Astros in Futures Game at Chase Field as part of Major League Baseball's All-Star festivities. He started at second base for the World team and went 2-for-3 with a double.

After signing with the Astros as a non-drafted free agent in 2006, Altuve began his professional career as a member of the Astros' Venezuelan Summer League team in his home country in 2007. In 2009, Altuve was an Appalachian League All-Star and the team MVP of the Greeneville Astros. He earned mid-season and post-season All-Star honors in the South Atlantic League in 2010.

Altuve is the feature card in the 2011 JetHawks baseball card team set, which has just arrived at the JetHawks team store. Card sets can be purchased at the team store or online at www.JetHawks.com. For more information, call (661) 726-5400.
