Sale of Derek Jeter's Controversial Minor League Jersey Benefits The Turn 2 Foundation
The sale of the jersey was brokered by Steiner Sports Marketing, which has exclusive deals with Jeter and the New York Yankees as well as a long-standing partnership with the Trenton Thunder. The jersey was authenticated through MLB's official Authentication Program.
"This is a perfect Minor League Baseball story," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. "We created a fun promotion that garnered a lot of publicity, had people talking and helped a worthy cause. We thank Derek Jeter for participating and we're thrilled that his own charity will benefit."
Jeter's July 2nd and 3rd rehab assignment in Trenton drew 18,214 fans to Mercer County Waterfront Park. In his two games, Jeter went 2-for-4 with two walks with a run scored.
ABOUT THE TURN 2 FOUNDATION
The Turn 2 Foundation was created by Derek Jeter and his father during Jeter's 1996 rookie season with a goal to create and support signature programs and activities that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "TURN 2" healthy lifestyles. Through these ventures, the Foundation strives to create outlets that promote and reward academic excellence, leadership development and positive behavior so that children of these programs grow safely and successfully into adulthood and become the leaders of tomorrow.
