Rockies' Blumenthal gets eight RBIs

August 20, 2005
Kyle Blumenthal got only two hits on Friday night, but he made them count, driving in eight runs to lead the Casper Rockies to a 14-7 Pioneer League win over the Missoula Osprey.

A 14th-round pick of the Colorado Rockies in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, Blumenthal put Casper in front for good with a grand slam in the first inning. It was his fifth homer of the season.

Blumental produced another run with a squeeze bunt in the third, then capped a five-run fourth with a three-run double. He walked in the sixth and eighth in his final two plate appearances.

The 22-year-old Cal Poly product is hitting .327 with 32 RBIs in 44 games. The eight RBIs were three short of the Pioneer League record, and Blumenthal's wasn't even the best performance in the circuit this season.

On Sunday, Kiel Thibault hit three homers and drove in nine runs for the Idaho Falls Chukars.
