San Jose, CA - The San Francisco Giants acquired six-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove outfielder Carlos Beltran and cash from the New York Mets in exchange for right-handed pitcher Zack Wheeler, Giants' Senior Vice President and General Manager Brian Sabean announced today.

Beltran, 34, is hitting .289 (102-for-353) with 30 doubles, 15 home runs and 66 RBI in 98 contests for the New York Mets. Beltran is currently leading the N.L. with 30 doubles, while his 47 extra base hits are tied for second-most, his 60 walks are third-best, and his .391 on-base percentage and 66 RBI both rank as seventh-most in the senior circuit.

Wheeler, 21, was 7-5 with a 3.99 ERA (39ER, 88.0IP) and 98 strikeouts in 16 starts for the single-A San Jose Giants this season in his second campaign with the Giants' minor league system. He was originally selected by San Francisco with the sixth pick of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of East Paulding High School in Georgia.

Wheeler, who played in the 2011 Cal League All-Star Game and the 2010 Futures Game, was rated as the number two prospect in the San Francisco Giants organization according to Baseball America prior to the 2011 season and was considered to have the "best fastball" in the Giants farm system by Baseball America.
