July 29, 2011
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 29, 2011) -- Matt Heidenreich matched a career-high with 8.0 innings pitched as the Kannapolis Intimidators backed him up with a 7-3 win over the Asheville Tourists on Friday night. The Intimidators have won the first two games of the four-game series.

Heidenreich (9-6) shut out the Tourists through the first five innings, allowing Kannapolis to build an early 6-0 lead, and finished the night with three runs allowed on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts in the win. It was his 11th quality start of the season in 20 games started.

First baseman Leighton Pangilinan, who joined the Intimidators from Advanced Rookie level Great Falls yesterday, went 1-for-3 and drove in three runs including a two-run triple to cap a five-run Kannapolis rally in the third inning.

The first nine runs of the game all came with two outs.

Kannapolis took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Trayce Thompson led off with a double, and Rangel Ravelo singled him over to third. Pangilinan's sacrifice fly to left field brought home Thompson.

Collin Kuhn singled to begin the third inning, and Josh Mueller walked Keenyn Walker. After a pair of fly outs, Trayce Thompson dropped a base hit into right field to cash Kuhn. Dan Black followed with a bases-clearing double, his league-lead-tying 29 of the year, giving the Intimidators a 4-0 lead. Pangilinan followed Ravelo's walk with his triple, his first hit with Kannapolis, making it 6-0.

Thompson's two runs scored gives him 72 on the season, tops in the league.

Asheville's Corey Dickerson ended Heidenreich's shutout bid with a two-out two-run home run in the top of the sixth. Dickerson leads the South Atlantic League with 21 home runs.

Mueller, the Tourists starter, lasted just 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on six hits with three walks and a strikeout. Juan Gonzalez came on in relief and retired the first 10 batters he faced before walking Walker to lead off the bottom of the seven inning. Gonzalez finished by retiring 16 of 17 batters with the long exception - Walker - scoring on Marcus Semien's sac fly in the seventh.

The Intimidators continue the four-game series against the Tourists on Saturday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. with a fireworks show scheduled for after the game. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
