Parnell and Company Shutout Cubs
In search of there first win in five games, the St. Lucie Mets sent out Bobby Parnell (1-1) to get things back on track. Parnell was solid tonight pitching six scoreless innings giving up just two hits, two walks and striking out nine, to pick up his first victory of the season.
Parnell got all the run support he would need in the bottom of the first when Jose Castro came to bat with one out and drove Scott Taylor's pitch over the right field wall to pick up his first homerun of the season. Castro went 4-4 on the night with one run scored and one RBI. The Mets tacked on there second run of the game in the second when Sean Henry came up with two outs and got a base hit to center. On the very next pitch, Henry stole second to get into scoring position. Emmanuel Garcia drove Henry in with a single of his own to give the Mets a 2-0 lead.
After the sixth inning, manager Frank Cacciatore handed the game over to his bullpen when Ryan Meyers came in and shut down Daytona pitching two scoreless innings. German Marte came into the game in the ninth and picked up his second save of the season for St. Lucie.
Picking up the loss for Daytona was Scott Taylor who now falls to 0-2 on the year. The Mets will host the Daytona Cubs in the rubber match of the series tomorrow at Tradition Field, game time is 6pm and gates open at 5pm.
