AAGPBL Reunion and Autograph Session on Tuesday

On Tuesday, August, 9, the R-Phils are set to begin an exciting three-game series against the Bowie Baysox. VIST Financial Plaza gates are set to open at 5:00 p.m., with first-pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at America’s Classic Ballpark.

As part of the fun on Tuesday, the R-Phils will welcome six former members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. The AAGPBL was founded by Phillip K. Wrigley and existed from 1943-1954.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Reunion and Autograph Session, presented by 830 AM WEEU, will feature a Queen of Baseballtown, a three-time All-Star, and more on Tuesday.

Representing the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League on Tuesday will be:

Gertrude (Alderfer) Benner: Played as Gertrude Alderfer
- 1st Base
- Springfield Sallies – 1949
- Chicago Colleens – 1950
- Kalamazoo Lassies – 1950
- Belongs to the Pennridge – Quakertown Hall of Fame and the Cooperstown Hall of Fame

Gloria Cordes – Elliott: Played as Gloria Cordes
- Pitcher, 1st Base
- Racine Belles – 1950, 1951, 1952
- Kalamazoo Lassies – 1953, 1954
- 3 Time All-Star
- In 1952 pitched 24 consecutive complete games
- Won 16 – Lost 8 with a 1.44 ERA
- Pitched 34 consecutive scoreless innings

Sarah Jane “Salty” Sands Ferguson: Played as Sarah Jane “Salty” Sands
- Right Field, Catcher
- Rockford Peaches – 1953, 1954
- Made 2nd Team All-Star in 1954
- In 136 games, had 414 at-bats and had 24 assists from right field

Ruth Kramer Hartman: Played as Ruth Kramer; named Queen of Baseballtown
- Pitcher, 2nd Base
- Fort Wayne Daisies – 1946, 1947
- Played in 3 World Series in Softball 1948, 1949, 1950
- Named Most Valuable Player 3 times

Virginia “Jean” Ventura Manina: Played as Virginia “Jean” Ventura
- First Base
- Rockford Peaches – 1951, 1952, 1953
- Played with the Chicago softball winter league in 1952

Joanne McComb:
- First Base
- Springfield Sallies – 1950
- Bloomsburg University established the “Joanne McComb Outstanding Female Athlete Underclassmen Award”
