Ruben Sierra Named Northwest League Player of the Week
Sierra, the son of former Texas Ranger Ruben Sierra, hit .429 during the week with three doubles, two home runs, eight RBI's, and five runs scored. The hard-hitting left-hander also contributed a stolen base and an outfield assist during his game for the ages against the Eugene Emeralds on July 28th.
Spokane's left-fielder tied that game, which the Indians trailed 5-0 at one point, with a two-run opposite-field blast in the eighth inning. Sierra came to the plate again in the ninth with the bases loaded, and on the first pitch he saw from Emeralds reliever Chris Wilkes, launched a walk-off grand slam high into the starry Spokane night and over Avista Stadium's leftfield wall.
Not only did Sierra's grand slam carry the Indians to victory, but it also won lucky fan a new truck as a part of Grand Slam F-150 Giveaway Night presented by Gus Johnson Ford and KISS 98.1 FM. Indians fan Leslie Vancil, who was randomly selected before the ninth inning, drove off in a brand new Ford truck as part of the long-running promotion.
Sierra and the Indians are in Vancouver for a five-game series with the Canadians before returning to Spokane on Sunday, August 7th for Fantasy Baseball Night presented by Longhorn BBQ and ESPN 700 The Ticket.
