MLB All-Star Brandon Crawford Scheduled To Rehab With Richmond

Crawford Returns to The Diamond For First Time Since 2010
May 7, 2017

RVA- The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are excited to announce that MLB All-Star and two-time Gold Glove award-winner Brandon Crawford will begin a rehab assignment with the team beginning on Monday at The Diamond. Crawford becomes the fourth San Francisco Giants player to rehab in Richmond and the second to do so after initially coming through the RVA as a member of the Squirrels. The Giants shortstop is working his way back from a groin injury and was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday, April 29. Tickets for Monday can be purchased here. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for Monday's 6:35 p.m. start.

Crawford will join Ryan Vogelsong (2013), Matt Cain (2015), and Josh Osich (2016) as San Francisco Giants players to rehab with the Flying Squirrels. Crawford was a member of the charter Flying Squirrels team in 2010 and batted .279 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs over 79 games. He was named an Eastern League All-Star in his only season in Richmond.

"Craw has stayed in touch with us throughout his entire career," said Flying Squirrels VP & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "He is simply a great person and a wonderful friend to the Flying Squirrels and we look forward to seeing him again."

Crawford made his MLB debut on May 27, 2011 at the age of 24 and has won two World Series championships with San Francisco. The California-native was named an MLB All-Star during the 2015 season and is widely considered one of the best shortstops in the game. Prior to his injury, the San Francisco Giants fielded an all former Flying Squirrels infield with Crawford at shortstop, Brandon Belt (RFS-2010) at first base, Joe Panik (RFS-2013) at second base and Christian Arroyo (RFS-2016) at third base.
