Guns and Hoses Charity Softball Game
Fans can also take part in our typical Sunday promotions including pregame autographs presented by Taco Bell and the Boys & Girls Club and postgame Kids Run the Bases presented by Uncle Bob's Self Storage. That evening is also a Faith Sunday presented by New Life Christian Stores and Spirit FM featuring live praise music in between the softball game and Hillcats game. Plus, Kids Club members get a free hot dog and soft drink.
Proceeds from the game will go to each department's respective charities. The LPD is playing for the Special Olympics and the LFD will donate to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Along with proceeds from tickets that both departments sell, the Lynchburg Hillcats will donate $1 from every walk-up ticket sold that evening on behalf of Beacon Credit Union to the charities.
Fire and Police departments face-off around the country to help raise money for charities and the LPD and LFD are choosing to do so on a baseball diamond. The softball game will allow them to make an impact locally as Lynchburg Fire Marshall Greg Wormser pointed out that "...the money donated will be going directly to local branches, instead of being sent out nationally and waiting for it to trickle down." The departments were able to raise a total of $6,500 for their charities over the past 3 years
Each department is practicing weekly in preparation for the event, as well as to build teamwork and camaraderie. Though they enjoy practices, both departments are looking forward to the real deal.
"The best part is knowing that we are able to help those who need it, and not just those that need help in an emergency [setting] like we do day-to-day, but those in the area who truly need help" said Wormser. "It's very gratifying."
To purchase tickets for the event fans can call the Lynchburg Hillcats Ticket Office at (434) 528-1144 or purchase them online. Fans can also make purchases in person at the Box Office Mon.-Fri. 9:00am-5:00pm.
