Guns-N-Hoses softball game set for Saturday

August 17, 2011
Great Falls, MT - The war of words playing out on Facebook is heating up, with the Great Falls Firefighters stoking the flames - as opposed to putting them out.

"Come support your local firefighters and see your local cops sulk in their coffee and donuts as we run up the score!!" reads the Firefighters Facebook page for the upcoming Guns-N-Hoses softball game.

The second annual fundraising softball scrap pits the Great Falls Police Officers against the Great Falls Fireman Sunday, August 21 at 1 p.m. at Centene Stadium.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Police Protective Association and the Firemen Association. Both associations redirect proceeds back into the Great Falls community - specifically for children. The Police Protective Associations sponsors programs such as Shop with a Cop, Special Olympics, Little League baseball and softball, American Legion Baseball and High School Safe-Graduation Parties.

Cost of admission is $5 per person (ages 6 and up) or one can of food to be donated to the Great Falls Community Food Bank. Tickets are available at the GFPD or on game day at Centene Stadium.

"When we say 100% of the donated money goes back to local community events and charities, we mean it," Cory Reeves said, coach for the police squad. "That's why all the players' uniforms (hats and shirts) will be purchased by the individual player."

Each of the 34 players participating is required to have a community sponsor, with each sponsor being recognized during the game.

The GFPD Honor Guard will present the colors. Veteran umpire Greg Pierce will call the game. Wurlitzer will deliver the between-inning musical entertainment. Centene Stadium is being made available free of charge courtesy of the Great Falls Voyagers.

In addition, the Great Falls Selects and Great Falls Heat U10 girl's fast-pitch teams will play one inning. The Selects will represent the firemen and the Heat will represent the policemen.

To donate to this event or to make other inquiries, please contact Detective Cory Reeves at the Great Falls Police Department at 406-771-1180.
