FIVE ERRORS EQUALS ONE LOSS
The Keys grabbed an early lead but it did not last long. RF Steve Bumbry started the game with a bang, leading off the contest with a solo home run to right field to put Frederick atop 1-0. Lynchburg would answer in the second inning as with a runner at second base and one out, Keys SS Manny Machado could not handle a tricky hop. The fielding error led to two Lynchburg runs.
Frederick tied the game in the third inning but it would not last long. With two outs Machado laced a double down the right field line. Next up was LF Kipp Schutz who powered a double to the center field wall scoring Machado with ease to knot the score at 2-apiece. The Hillcats answered quickly though as CF Todd Cunningham doubled off of the first pitch of the bottom of the third inning. Another Machdo error on a slow roller that went under his glove clouded the situation and Lynchburg scored two more runs.
Down 5-2 in the seventh inning the Keys loaded the bases with two outs but Schutz hit a hard comebacker to pitcher Andrew Russell and the threat was fruitless. Potomac defeated Winston-Salem 4-3 in Woodbridge, VA so the Keys lead in the division is now five games. Potomac leads Lynchburg by five games for the wild card, and a chance to take on the Keys in the Northern Division Championship Series.
