Mather, Cards tie up Wranglers

Joe Mather cranked two home runs to lead Springfield over visiting Wichita, 6-2, on Thursday.

Mather opened the scoring with a solo shot in the fourth inning, doubled and scored in the seventh and slammed a leadoff home run in the eighth for his third multi-homer game of the season.

Bryan Anderson hit a two-run homer in the seventh to put Springfield (6-9) ahead, 3-2.

Cardinals reliever Kevin Ool (1-0) picked up the win with 2 1/3 perfect innings. Mitchell Boggs started and threw six shutout frames to open the game for the Cardinals, letting up five hits while fanning four and walking three.

Starter Daniel Christensen went four innings for the Wranglers (8-10), giving up one run on two hits while striking out four and walking three. Dusty Hughes (0-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 2 1/3 innings. -- Michael Blinn/MLB.com
