Fontenot Powers Cubs in 7-4 Win
After Eric Patterson was hit by a pitch to start the seventh, Fontenot sent a drive over the right-field fence for his third homer and a 7-4 lead.
Patterson, the younger brother of Baltimore Orioles center fielder Corey Patterson, was 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Koyie Hill went 2-for-5 and Buck Coats scored twice as Iowa snapped a four-game losing streak.
Reliever Ben Howard (1-1) earned the win after limiting the Redbirds (10-11) to one hit in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Clay Rapada pitched a perfect ninth to notch his first save. Starter Angel Guzman lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five.
Blake Hawksworth (0-4) gave up five runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and a walk over five innings to lose his fourth straight start.
Former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Rick Ankiel went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for Memphis, which had a four-game winning streak stopped. Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
