Junior Grizzlies to play in Fresno

April 27, 2007
FRESNO, Calif. -- For the first time ever, Junior Grizzlies players will join players from the Fresno Grizzlies in a game to be played Saturday night at Chukchansi Park.

The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. prior to the Grizzlies contest against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at 7:05 p.m.

Players from Junior Grizzlies will get the chance to hit, catch and throw with their favorite Grizzlies players on the team's home field. All Junior Grizzlies will have the opportunity to bat and field. Grizzlies players will wear Junior Grizzlies replica jerseys that will then be auctioned off after both games. All the proceeds from the live auction will go towards benefiting Junior Grizzlies.

Junior Grizzlies is a non-competitive baseball league that gives all kids, regardless of their limitations, the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. This unique baseball program is open to children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities. All proceeds raised through the Grizzlies.

Community Fund will directly benefit the kids of Junior Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies Community Fund has set a goal to raise $400,000 for the construction of a rubberized baseball field for the league. The field will be located at Gateway Alternative School on Herndon and Sunnyside in Clovis and will take on the name of a title sponsor upon completion. Until then, the league's teams will play at Woods Elementary School.
