Charlotte drops Fort Myers 6-2

August 20, 2011
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (August 20th, 2011) -- After a rain delay that lasted just over two hours, the Stone Crabs jumped out to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back in a 6-2 win over the Miracle at Charlotte Sports Park. Two seven inning games were scheduled tonight as a makeup for Friday's rain out, but it was decided to play a nine inning game instead and push back the doubleheader to Sunday.

Miracle starter Pat Dean (2-6) took the loss, giving up all six runs on ten hits in four innings of work. Charlotte got on the board with an RBI double from Omar Luna in the second inning, and Mark Thomas cranked his 12th home run of the season, a two-run blast, in the third. The Stone Crabs added their final three runs in the fourth against Dean.

Albert Suarez (1-0) made his Florida State League debut for Charlotte tonight, and limited the Miracle to three scattered hits and one earned run in five and two-third innings for the victory.

Aaron Hicks led off the sixth inning with a double, and eventually scored on a sac-fly from James Beresford. Hicks scored the second Miracle run in the eighth inning, walking against reliever Matt Stabelfeld to start the frame. After moving to second on a wild pitch from the lefty, Hicks scored on an RBI single from Dan Rohlfing.

The Miracle bullpen combined to limit Charlotte to only one hit the rest of the night in four innings. Ricky Bowen tossed two frames, while Shooter Hunt and Cole Nelson threw a perfect seventh and eighth innings respectively

Fort Myers and Charlotte will wrap their series tomorrow with two games starting at 3:30 p.m. Tom Stuifbergen and Alex Wimmers are projected to start for the Miracle.
