Batista, Clippers best Yankees

Tony Batista went 3-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs to lead Columbus past visiting Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 5-4, on Monday.

Batista smacked a leadoff homer in the second inning, his third, and an RBI single in the sixth to knot the score at 3-3.

Three batters later, Juan Brito drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Clippers (10-13) ahead for good. He hit his first homer, a solo shot, in the eighth. Abraham Nunez also slugged a solo shot, his fourth, in the fifth.

Columbus starter Tim Redding (3-2) allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six frames. Winston Abreu fanned five in two perfect innings, and Chris Booker gave up a run on two hits and a walk in the ninth for his seventh save.

Shelley Duncan hit his seventh homer for the Yankees (10-12), a leadoff blast in the fourth, and Bronson Sardinha crushed a two-run shot, his fifth, in the sixth.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Ross Ohlendorf (0-2) surrendered four runs on six hits while striking out five and walking two in 5 2/3 innings. --Marc Jimenez/MLB.com
