Douglas and Pounds Extend Hit Streaks in Loss
The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the first inning against Binghamton starter Brandon Moore. With one out, Brandon Douglas tripled to straight away center. His third triple of the season also extended his hit streak to 12 straight games which is the longest hitting streak of the season by a SeaWolf. Douglas scored on a Justin Henry sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Erie lead.
Erie added to the lead in the top of the third. Jamie Johnson led off with a double over the head of the right fielder Juan Lagares and Henry walked with one out. The runners both got into scoring position on a passed ball and scored on a Bryan Pounds double down the left field line for a 3-0 lead. Pounds, with three hits in the game, extended his hitting streak to a season-best 10 consecutive games.
The Mets got on the board in a big way in the last of the sixth against Erie starter Brooks Brown. Brown worked five shutout innings to start the game with only one hit given up. Matt den Dekker led off and walked and Lagares singled putting two on for Reese Havens. Havens belted a three-run home run over the wall in right, his fourth, making it a one-run game at 4-3. That would spell the end of the game for Brown. The three runs allowed snapped a streak of 30 consecutive innings for the SeaWolves starting pitching staff without allowing an earned run.
Brahiam Maldonado followed with a single against reliever Ryan Robowlsi and he reached second on an error. Allan Dykstra doubled home Maldonado, tying the game at 4-4. With one out, Eric Campbell doubled home Dykstra making it 5-4 Binghamton.
The Mets would finish the night's scoring in the bottom of the seventh when den Dekker connected on an opposite-field home run leading off the inning. The ninth home run of the season for Den Dekker made it 6-4 Mets. Erie would get no closer.
Once the Mets grabbed the lead in the sixth, Moore and Erik Turgeon held the 'Wolves hitless over the final three innings of the game. Erie's lone baserunner over the final three innings was a Henry walk in the eighth.
Brown took a no-decision, snapping a streak of three straight losses. He allowed three runs on three hits with five walks and a strikeout in five-plus innings of work.
