Biscuits grand slam dooms M-Braves, 8-5
The Braves (29-30, 54-75) led 5-4 with two outs in the seventh when Wrigley hit his slam off of Brett Butts to put the Biscuits (28-31, 62-67) ahead 8-5.
The loss ends a season-high five-game win streak for the M-Braves.
Aaron Shafer picked up his second straight quality start, allowing just three earned runs in six innings of work. He outdueled Tampa Bay Rays prospect Alex Colome, who allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings. Each took no-decisions.
Marquis Fleming took the win for Montgomery, his fifth. Butts suffered a blown save and the loss, his second. He was also ejected after hitting John Matulia following the grand slam.
Mississippi built a steady 4-1 lead through five innings, posting a run in each of the first four innings. Ernesto Mejia hit a double to lead off the second and came in to score on a Donell Linares RBI groundout two batters later.
Mejia also picked up an RBI on the night, his M-Braves record 86th, when he grounded out in the third inning to bring in Jordan Kreke and put the Braves ahead 2-0.
With the Braves leading 4-1 in the fifth, Montgomery posted three runs to tie the game at four. It didn't stay that way for long. Dan Nelson singled to bring in Mycal Jones and give the Braves a 5-4 lead in the sixth.
Mississippi and Montgomery finish the five game series on Thursday night at 7:05 PM CDT. Lefthander Jose Lugo toes the rubber for the Braves against Biscuits righty Nick Barnese. Listen live at WYAB 103.9 FM or online at MississippiBraves.com.
